My husband absolutely loves chai: Chai latte, chai frappes, chai frozen cocktails, basically anything with that creamy, spiced flavor. The problem is that most chai drinks you order at coffee shops are made with sugary powdered concentrates and artificial creamers. Unlike coffee, where you can usually customize things into a healthier option, chai tends to be “sugar bomb or nothing.”

So I wanted to make a homemade high-protein iced chai tea latte that actually tastes like the coffee shop version, but without the additives, artificial syrups, or insane sugar content. This recipe is creamy, sweet, lightly spicy, and honestly tastes like something you’d pay $7 for at a café, except it’s packed with protein and made from real ingredients.

This iced chai protein drink is perfect for summer mornings, porch sitting, post-workout afternoons, or anytime you want a cozy coffee shop drink without the crash afterward.

High Protein Chai Latte

Ingredients

Optional:

  • Whipped cream

  • Extra cinnamon on top

Instructions

  1. Brew the chai tea bags in boiling water for about 4 minutes.

  2. Remove the tea bags and immediately stir in the sweetener, collagen, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt until completely dissolved.

  3. Fill a large tumbler with ice (I love these tumblers from Amazon!)and pour the chai mixture over it.

  4. Add the Nut Pods creamer and almond milk. Stir until creamy and combined.

  5. Top with whipped cream and an extra sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

Macros (Approximate)

Using unsweetened almond milk, Nut Pods, collagen, and Gentle Sweet:

  • Protein: ~10g

  • Carbs: ~3–4g

  • Fat: ~5g

  • Sugar: ~1g

Why This Chai Latte Is Better Than Coffee Shop Chai

Most coffee shop chai lattes are loaded with sugary concentrates, syrups, and artificial ingredients. Some large chai drinks can easily hit 40–60 grams of sugar before toppings.

This homemade iced chai latte:

  • Uses real brewed tea instead of concentrate

  • Has added protein from collagen

  • Contains almost no sugar

  • Still tastes creamy and indulgent

  • Costs way less than a daily coffee shop run

It’s one of those recipes that feels like a treat while still fitting into your health goals.

Optional Variations

Frozen Chai Frappe

Blend the finished drink with extra ice for a healthy chai frappe.

Dirty Chai

Add 1–2 shots of espresso for a homemade dirty chai latte.

Extra Creamy Version

Use cashew milk or a splash of heavy cream for an even richer coffee shop dupe.

Higher Protein Version

Add half a scoop of vanilla protein powder along with the collagen.
